Hello friends! For the past three months, I’ve been loosely holding a secret. I started a new blog – Cotton + Joy! I say loosely because I have talked about it a bit on Twitter, but beyond that, I’ve kept it separate from this blog and haven’t shared about it widely on here.
About Cotton + Joy
Cotton and Joy is my newest internet baby, and it’s all about quilting. So far I’ve only shared quilts I’ve finished and a couple of free patterns on the blog. However, I hope to take it further by sharing tutorials and quilting resources to help beginners jump into the amazing world of modern quilting.
Why I Started A New Blog
Back in February, I shared a post where I talked about this new love of mine, quilting. At that point, I intended to add quilting as a new category in this blog and go from there.
However, after thinking about it for a while, I realized that wouldn’t work. Quilting has become a serious passion for me, and I want to share about it all the time. I realized that adding it to the mix already going on here in 259 West would get messy very quickly. I also already felt weird about sharing tons of quilting pictures on my Instagram but I wanted to share, share, share.
Also as I got into quilting, I began following a lot of accounts on Instagram and saw this wonderful community and wanted to fully part-take, but it felt strange to do so from my blog + design studio account. I wanted to fully immerse myself in the community and couldn’t truly do so from this account, and I didn’t want to switch my personal Instagram account into a quilting account.
I saw a new Instagram account and blog as the only way to share as much as I wanted about quilting without any concerns about confusing people with blog design and quilting all in one account and just enjoy myself.
Cotton + Joy Thus Far
This has seriously been one of the best things I’ve done lately! The new friends I’ve made and the community I’ve joined have brought me so much joy in the last three months. My Instagram account has grown by leaps and bounds and it currently stands at over 680 followers! In just three months I’ve already been featured by a brand’s account and had the opportunity to test a new quilt pattern. AND next week a fabric store will begin selling a fabric bundle based on a quilt I’ve made – something I never dreamed of in my wildest dreams!
What The Future Holds
I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am about this new journey I’ve embarked on. Right now I’m still just kind of seeing where it goes, but I have some ideas of where I’d like to take Cotton + Joy. When I first started the blog in March, I just slapped a premade theme on there and called it good, but I will be fully branding it and doing a new blog design in the coming weeks.
I am looking forward to sharing more about Cotton + Joy and what I’ve learned about launching a new blog and new Instagram account in these three months! I fully plan on continuing to blog here on 259 West and sharing about our life and blogging tips, but if you’d like to see what I’m up to in my quilty adventures, you can check out the blog here and follow my other accounts:
