Oh em goodness, March went by in a flash! The days themselves felt so long with everything we had going on but the whole month flew by! I cannot believe it’s already April and that we are *this* close to moving to Germany!
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, let’s see what went on in March!
March really kick off the PCS! Movers came and got our first shipment of stuff to go off to Germany, good ol’ unaccompanied baggage. I made a whole list of things to send off and I was really worried we were sending too much stuff.
The day the movers came, I kept looking at our pile like “oh my gosh, they’re going to tell me to pull half of this stuff”. Instead they packed it all up and the main guy kept asking “Ma’am, is this everything? Are you sure this is everything?” Turns out we came at less than half our allotted weight.
On one hand it made me feel really awesome but also left me wondering what I forgot to send, hah! Thing is other than 2-3 things I forgot to add from my list (and one that I forgot to add to my list!) I cannot think of a single extra thing I could’ve send ahead but I guess we’ll see!
Joey’s New “Car”
Joey will never be able to say he’s not loved (read: spoiled). Up until now whenever we went on walks, he went on the stroller but now we kind of needed the stroller for Ben. So my mom and I talked about how awesome it’d be to get Joey a tricycle.
As we were looking at them on Amazon, Joey jumped up on the couch, pointed at the screen and said “caaaar!”. And then he would not stop talking about the car he saw on the computer.
Then the next morning my was browsing the internet and the tricycle showed up on an ad and Joey said “Car! Car okay? Car okay?! Okay!” Speaking all of two words, the little dude convinced my mom he needed the new tricycle, erm car.
And then of course I got stuck putting the dang thing together. Word to the wise – go to Toys R’ Us or Walmart or ANYWHERE where they sell these bad boys already put together. Let’s just say there was a lot of cussing and bagging things together and a promise to Never Again.
Another big thing that happened in March was Brotherly Bonding. I’m always getting asked how Joey’s doing wit the whole Big Brother thing. Truth is, February was HARD on this front. Little Brother + Lance going TDY was a BAD combination.
However, March was a big turning point for these brothers! Joey started showing a lot more interest in Ben and doing little things to help and take care of little brother. He’s always coming up to him, pointing out Ben’s body parts (Joey’s favorite game), and saying The Brooo!
Microchips Hot Mess Xpress
We started with PCS related talk, and we’ll end with PCS related talk.
So microchipping Pudge and Panda is one of those we’ve always known we should do and it’s been on our to-do for years but we somehow never got around to it – until we had to.
In addition to having all their vaccinations up to date and a health certificate, dogs need to be microchipped in order to enter the European Union. And they can’t be vaccinated for rabies until 21 days after they’re microchipped and they need to vaccinated for rabies 30 before entering the EU. So if a dog isn’t microchipped the very latest they can be microchipped is 51 days before entering the EU.
I found all of this out roughly one hour after the movers left with our unaccompanied baggage. Also known as 53 days before The Move. Queue in major panic and serious scramble. I don’t think I’ve ever Googled and made a plan of action as quickly as I did that day.
Thankfully the Humane Society is only 2 blocks away from post and they microchip for $27 and do walk-ins *all the praise hands emojis* I seriously never wanted to hug someone as hard as when the lady told me on the phone all of this information. Within 4 hours of finding out they had to be microchipped, Pudge and Panda had been and were registered. Phew.
Want to know what’s absolutely crazy? We’ll be in Germany one month from now – aaaah!
