Oh man. I don’t even know where to start with this one. Probably at the beginning?
I met Jessica some 4 years ago, and we immediately clicked – both book lovers and a little nerdy. We were meant to be. If you look through my book archives a lot of posts are from the Book Chat, a weekly book-themed linkup she used to hold every Thuraday. To this day it feel strange to post about books on a day other than Thursday (or to post about something non-bookish on Thursdays.
I had the pleasure to design her blog a couple of years ago and to meet her in person last year – we now live in the same town, which is a rare treat in the military world, and I treasure our coffee dates.
Almost for as long as I’ve known her, I’ve know Jessica as a writer. She’s been working on her book, The Hereafter, for a long time and I was left speechless and extremely honored when she asked me to design the cover for The Hereafter.
I couldn’t say yes fast enough and immediately after I became completely terrified that I would ruin it. If it was anyone else, who cares?! I mean, I still would’ve cared a little bit but this was my friend’s book and I wanted to NAIL IT.
During the Discovery Phase, I had Jessica share with me some book covers she loves and that matches the book’s theme. I quickly began to see a theme – beautiful hand-lettered titles. At first, I was afraid to even bring up the possibility of my actually hand lettering her book cover but when I showed it to her, I got the best response a designer can ever get.
To say I’m proud and excited (and a little bit nervous) to share this with you all is an understatement.
Jessica’s book will be going on sale next Friday March 18. Please be sure to check it out!
