And somehow I let a whole month go by without posting… but I have a good excuse!
Lance and I took the most glorious of trips up to the Mitten, aka Michigan, with Pudge and Panda. It was the absolute best. The grass! The trees! The cold weather! Oh, the cold weather. You guys have no idea how many outfit possibilities this opened up for me, even in my holy-crap-this-belly-is-big pregnant situation – just by the cheer addition of sweaters onto the realm of acceptable clothes my “clothes that fit” doubled. DOUBLED. I don’t think I’ve had as much picking out an outfit as that first day in Michigan since… well, since we moved to El Paso.
I’m not entirely sure how we even made this happened but we did. Actually, I do. I have the best husband, ever. I do. Why, you ask? This man planned this whole trip so he could [with assistance from my friends] plan a baby shower for me behind my back after a couple of 1st-trimest-pregnancy-hormones-induced cryfests that I wouldn’t be having one and darn that Pinterest for showing me baby shower stuff! Yup. Whole trip to Michigan, so I could have a baby shower. But don’t let him fool you – he also got to visit his favorite brewery and walked out with 6 Six-Packs of his favorite brew, so there was something in this for him too. [but he still wins the Husband of the Year award].
So what did we do (aside from the baby shower, which will get its own post)? We saw old friends. Went on long walks with Pudge and Panda. Ate. Saw some more friends. Ate some more. Enjoyed the scenery. And did I mentioned that we ate lots? I conservatively estimate we ate at Panera at least 4 times. You people close to Panera really don’t know what you’re missing. Oh, and Carraba’s! Oh, Italian goodness. And I can’t forget all the donuts I bought at my favorite little donut shop (I used to be a know-the-cashier-regular #noshame). And the cookies! All the cookies from my favorite bakery in town! Melt in your mouth cookies. Followed by Culver’s custard, because, duh. In case you’re wondering – yes, we did have a list of places we needed to eat at. And yes, we did eat at every single one of them. And yes, I did gain a lot of weight and yes I am blaming it on baby.
And then on the way back, we visited my pal Erika. And it we ate pizza and talked while everyone else napped and it was amazing. And then we stopped by in Missouri and visited Lance’s dad, which was really, really nice. Kind of crazy since we were in the middle-of-nowhere Missouri listening to cows and chickens but also really chill, which was exactly what I needed after some seriously hectic days in Michigan.
I will go look at these pictures some more now and pretend I’m still somewhere where it’s fall-ish (because El Paso still hasn’t gotten the memo and we still have the AC on…) But overall. Best trip ever. I could make this assessment on the food and weather alone, but seeing some old friends and being reminded that you know… I do have friends (no matter what this military life makes me think), was so good for my soul.
